| MEGA PIXEL MAGIC |
| Whether you’re ready to upgrade, or you haven’t yet taken the first step into digital photography, you’ll find there’s a camera for you among the fantastic new digital range from Oregon Scientific.
These four smart new cameras may be technically advanced but it’s the functionality, size, style and ease of use that makes them stand out.
See yourself on the BIG screen
Flagship of the new range is the Oregon Scientific PV100 Jumbo Display Camera (3M-pixel) with a massive 3.5” TFT preview screen.
The PV100 is only 109 x 70 x 27mm in size and will slip omfortably into a pocket or handbag. Looks super smart in its aluminium casing and, with its massive 3.5” TFT colour preview screen, you’ll
be able to check out your snaps in detail as you take them.
This stylish-looking camera is big on features, and big on performance too: sensor resolution is 3 Mega pixels enabling you to take very high-quality photographs and, with a generous 16Mb internal memory, there’s plenty of room to store those pictures, even without the addition of an optional SD card. The movie function with audio includes a 2x digital zoom and isn’t
limited by buffer size. In fact, movie efforts are restricted only by the amount of available memory (so the “bigger” the SD card you fit, the longer the movies you’ll be able to shoot).
Once you’re satisfied you’ve got a set of snaps you’re happy with – and with autofocus lens, automatic exposure, white balance and controllable flash, you’ll find you generally will be – downloading them couldn’t be easier. Not only is the PV100 compatible with all up-to-date Windows and MAC operating systems via USB cable, but also it comes with its own deluxe docking station. Use this to download direct to your PC ready for slideshow playback (made easier with the docking stations slideshow short cut button), printing, e-mail or further storage (and recharge your batteries
while you’re at it).£199.99 RRP. Find it exclusively at Argos stores from the end of July.
DS6688 shows size doesn’t matter …
A bit easier on the pocket is the DS6688 3.0M-pixel Slim DSC with TFT Display (£129.99 rrp). The DS6688 has an optical viewfinder for greater clarity of use, 1.5” (3.5cm) TFT colour preview screen, a “non-limited”, Audio-Video Interleave (AVI) movie function with 2x digital zoom, and – as you’d expect from a digital camera made by a company with Oregon Scientific’s technological expertise
– autofocus, automatic exposure and white balance, flash that can is user selectable on/off or can be set to fire automatically whenever light conditions dictate. Photo quality is user-selectable (fine, normal or basic), and the 16Mb internal memory can be enhanced with the addition of an SD or MM card.
Not only that, but it’s also possible to copy pictures across from one
memory to the other. The DS6688 comes with its own docking station and is compatible with all up-to-date operating systems. And as if all this isn’t enough this neat little camera comes in a rainbow of colours, red, orange, blue, titanium and silver for cameras as colourful as the pictures it takes.
Old red eye is NOT back
It’s not easy improving on excellence, but the tiny new DS6639 2.0M-pixel Eyecam manages it. It’s the evolution of Oregon’s highly successful original Eyecam. There’s picture resolution of 2.0
Mega pixels with software interpolation to raise it to 3.0M and a host of practical new features including upgraded flash to include red eye reduction, extended battery life and improvements to the practical design and usability of the camera. This super smart camera retails at £89.99 and comes in a durable aluminium case and is now finished in one of five electrifying colours – Red,
Titanium, Silver and Blue. Available nationwide right now, the DS6639 retails at just £89.99 – a small price for such a big performer!
DS8338 – who needs a library?
If a picture paints a thousand words, you ought to be able to write a few novels with the DS8338 3.2M-pixel DSC with TFT Colour Preview Display (RRP £99.99). At “basic” resolution the 16Mb internal memory of this great-value camera will store up to 106 VGA (640 x 480) photos, or increase capacity using an SD or MM card. Among many attractive and user-friendly features, the DS8338 has a 1.5” (3.5cm) TFT colour preview screen, optical viewfinder, fully automatic flash, exposure and white balance, battery life indication, self timer and date imprint facility, plus a focusing switch that allows you to swap between portrait, group and landscape photography. There’s also an excellent AVI movie function (with 2x digital zoom; not limited by the camera’s internal buffer size). You can play back directly into your TV, and there’s a facility for “scheduled interval shoots” – so that you can reel off a set of photos at precise, pre-determined intervals, great for
capturing a fast moving motor race, for example. The DS8338 is in shops from July. All new models have in-built compatibility with the internet and for in-store ordering of prints from digital cameras. All the new cameras are in the shops now and represent the best value for money on the market. |
